CAS 76328-77-3
:n-Octadecyldimethyl(dimethylamino)silane
Description:
n-Octadecyldimethyl(dimethylamino)silane, with the CAS number 76328-77-3, is an organosilicon compound characterized by its long hydrophobic alkyl chain and functional silane groups. This compound typically appears as a colorless to pale yellow liquid or viscous substance. It possesses a silane backbone, which contributes to its reactivity and ability to bond with various substrates, making it useful in surface modification applications. The presence of the dimethylamino group imparts basic properties, allowing it to interact with polar surfaces and enhance adhesion. n-Octadecyldimethyl(dimethylamino)silane is often utilized in the formulation of coatings, adhesives, and sealants, as well as in the production of modified silica and other materials. Its hydrophobic nature, combined with the amino functionality, allows for improved compatibility with organic materials while providing potential antimicrobial properties. Safety considerations include handling precautions due to its potential irritant effects, and it should be stored in a cool, dry place away from incompatible substances.

n-OCTADECYLDIMETHYL(DIMETHYLAMINO)SILANE
CAS:
Alkyl Silane - Conventional Surface Bonding
Aliphatic, fluorinated aliphatic or substituted aromatic hydrocarbon substituents are the hydrophobic entities which enable silanes to induce surface hydrophobicity. The organic substitution of the silane must be non-polar. The hydrophobic effect of the organic substitution can be related to the free energy of transfer of hydrocarbon molecules from an aqueous phase to a homogeneous hydrocarbon phase. A successful hydrophobic coating must eliminate or mitigate hydrogen bonding and shield polar surfaces from interaction with water by creating a non-polar interphase. Although silane and silicone derived coatings are in general the most hydrophobic, they maintain a high degree of permeability to water vapor. This allows coatings to breathe and reduce deterioration at the coating interface associated with entrapped water. Since ions are not transported through non-polar silane and silicone coatings, they offer protection to composite structures ranging from pigmented coatings to rebar reinforced concrete. A selection guide for hydrophobic silanes can be found on pages 22-31 of the Hydrophobicity, Hydrophilicity and Silane Surface Modification brochure.
n-Octadecyldimethyl(dimethylamino)silane; (Dimethylamino)dimethyl(octadecyl)silane; N,N,1,1-Tetramethyl-1-octadecylsilanamine; N,N,1,1-Tetramethyl-1-octadecylsilanamine; (N,N-Dimethylamino)dimethyloctadecylsilane; (N,N-Dimethylamino)octadecyldimethylsilane
Contains 5-10% C18 isomersEmployed in bonded HPLC reverse phases

Formula:C22H49NSiPurity:97% including isomersColor and Shape:Straw LiquidMolecular weight:355.72Octadecyldimethyl (dimethylamino) silane
