:Altanserin
Description:
Altanserin is a chemical compound primarily recognized for its role as a selective serotonin 5-HT2A receptor antagonist. It is often utilized in pharmacological research, particularly in studies related to neuropharmacology and the investigation of psychiatric disorders. The compound has a complex molecular structure, which contributes to its specific binding affinity for the 5-HT2A receptor, making it a valuable tool in understanding serotonin-related pathways in the brain. Altanserin is typically characterized by its moderate lipophilicity, which influences its bioavailability and distribution within biological systems. Additionally, it is known for its potential applications in imaging studies, particularly in positron emission tomography (PET) to visualize serotonin receptor activity. Safety and toxicity profiles are essential considerations in its use, as with any pharmacological agent. Overall, Altanserin serves as an important compound in both therapeutic and research contexts, aiding in the exploration of serotonin's role in various neurological and psychiatric conditions.

CAS:Altanserin is a drug that binds to the 5-HT2 receptor and blocks its interactions with other molecules. Altanserin has been shown to have a synergic effect with antidepressants such as desipramine and fluoxetine, which are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It has also been shown to inhibit the uptake of 5-HT in the brain, which may be related to its effect on locomotor activity. The use of altanserin for HIV infection is still being studied. One study found that altanserin reduced viral load and increased CD4+ T cell counts in HIV patients who were not taking any other anti-HIV drugs. A recent study found that altanserin at dosages up to 4mg/kg/day did not cause any toxic effects in rats.Formula:C22H22FN3O2S•HCl•(H2O)xPurity:Min. 95%Altanserin
