2-Chloroanisole

Description:
2-Chloroanisole, with the CAS number 766-51-8, is an organic compound characterized by a chloro group attached to the second position of an anisole molecule, which consists of a methoxy group (–OCH₃) bonded to a benzene ring. This compound typically appears as a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a sweet, aromatic odor. It is slightly soluble in water but more soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. 2-Chloroanisole is known for its use in the synthesis of various chemical intermediates and can also serve as a flavoring agent or fragrance component. Its chemical structure allows it to participate in electrophilic aromatic substitution reactions, making it a versatile building block in organic synthesis. Additionally, it is important to handle this compound with care due to its potential toxicity and environmental impact, as well as its classification as a hazardous substance. Proper safety measures should be observed when working with 2-chloroanisole in laboratory or industrial settings.

  • 2-Chloroanisole

    CAS:

2-Chloroanisole is a chlorinated aromatic compound that has been used in industrial settings as a solvent and intermediate. It is a precursor in the synthesis of various organic compounds, such as benzoate esters, and it is also used for the conversion of catechol to 2-chloroacetophenone. 2-Chloroanisole has been found to be an effective methylating agent, which can be used for the production of methyl benzoate. The reaction mechanism proceeds via an electrophilic attack of chlorine on the benzene ring. This mode of reaction is known as the Suzuki coupling reaction. The rate of this reaction increases with increasing temperature and pH. To produce ionization techniques that are sensitive to different isotopomers, activated carbon can be used as a catalyst. Activated carbon also has the ability to remove volatile organic compounds from air or water, which makes it useful for removing chlorinated aromatic compounds from contaminated environments.
