:Famotidine
Description:
Famotidine is a histamine H2 receptor antagonist primarily used to treat conditions related to excessive stomach acid, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and peptic ulcers. It works by inhibiting the action of histamine on the H2 receptors of gastric parietal cells, thereby reducing gastric acid secretion. Famotidine is characterized by its chemical formula C8H10N8O2S, and it has a molecular weight of approximately 337.43 g/mol. The substance appears as a white to off-white crystalline powder, which is soluble in water and slightly soluble in alcohol. Famotidine is typically administered orally and is available in various formulations, including tablets and oral suspension. Its pharmacokinetics include rapid absorption, with peak plasma concentrations occurring within a few hours after administration. Famotidine is generally well-tolerated, with common side effects including headache, dizziness, and gastrointestinal disturbances. It is important to note that famotidine may interact with other medications, so a healthcare provider should be consulted before use.

Famotidine
CAS:Famotidine is a selective histamine H2-receptor antagonist used in the treatment of gastric hypersecretory disorders. Famotidine is effective in the treatment of duodenal and gastric ulcers, particularly when they are caused by the prolonged use of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). To improve retention in the stomach, famotidine has experimentally been formulated as buoyant tablets that remained floating for up to 10 hours in vitro (Jaimini, 2007).
