It has been shown to react with aziridine and form 1-(6-nitropyridin-3-yl)aziridine in the presence of isopropyl alcohol, yielding a mixture of isomers. This reaction has also been shown to proceed with isobutanol as solvent. The yield was dependent on the concentration of piperazine, but was greater when using higher concentrations. The experimentally determined rate constants and activation energies for this reaction were found to be 0.0074 M−1s−1 and −10.8 kJ/mol, respectively.
