CAS 7772-98-7
:Sodium thiosulfate
Description:
Sodium thiosulfate, with the CAS number 7772-98-7, is an inorganic compound commonly represented by the formula Na2S2O3. It appears as a white, crystalline solid that is highly soluble in water, forming a colorless solution. Sodium thiosulfate is known for its reducing properties and is often used in various applications, including photography, water treatment, and as an antidote for cyanide poisoning. It acts by converting toxic cyanide into a less harmful compound. The substance is also utilized in analytical chemistry as a titrant in redox reactions, particularly in iodometric titrations. In addition to its chemical reactivity, sodium thiosulfate is relatively stable under normal conditions but can decompose when exposed to strong acids or heat, releasing sulfur dioxide and other products. Its safety profile indicates that it is generally considered non-toxic, although it can cause irritation to the skin and eyes upon contact. Overall, sodium thiosulfate is a versatile compound with significant utility in both industrial and laboratory settings.

CAS:
Sodium thiosulfate is a salt that is used as an antimicrobial agent. It has been shown to inhibit the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and TLR2, which are important in the innate immune response. It has also been shown to suppress inflammation and tumor formation in vitro and in vivo. Sodium thiosulfate has been shown to inhibit the growth of squamous carcinoma cells by inducing apoptosis. The anti-cancer effect of sodium thiosulfate is due to its ability to reduce oxidative stress and increase antioxidant activity in cancer cells. It also inhibits potassium dichromate induced cancer cell proliferation by reducing redox potential. This salt may be useful for treating malignant brain tumors, where it has been shown to inhibit glioma cell proliferation, induce apoptosis, and reduce metastasis via reduction of angiogenesis.
Formula:Na2S2O3Purity:Min. 97%Molecular weight:158.11 g/mol
