CAS 7789-69-7
:Pentabromophosphorane
Description:
Pentabromophosphorane, with the CAS number 7789-69-7, is a chemical compound characterized by its unique structure and properties. It is a phosphorus-containing compound where a phosphorus atom is bonded to five bromine atoms, resulting in a highly brominated species. This compound is typically encountered as a white to yellowish solid and is known for its stability under ambient conditions. Pentabromophosphorane is primarily used in organic synthesis as a reagent for the introduction of phosphorus and bromine into organic molecules. Its reactivity is attributed to the presence of the phosphorus-bromine bonds, which can participate in various chemical reactions, including nucleophilic substitutions. Additionally, due to its high bromine content, it exhibits flame-retardant properties, making it of interest in materials science. However, handling this compound requires caution due to its potential toxicity and environmental impact, necessitating appropriate safety measures in laboratory and industrial settings.

CAS:
Phosphorus pentabromide is an alkanoic acid that has been used as a disinfectant and preservative. It also has various physiological activities, including antimicrobial activity, inhibition of lipid peroxidation, and inhibition of amyloid protein aggregation. The hydroxyl group on the carbon chain makes it soluble in water. Pyrimidine compounds are synthesized from phosphorus pentabromide by the reaction with carbon disulphide and hydrochloric acid, followed by treatment with sodium hypophosphite. As a halogen, phosphorus pentabromide can be substituted for chlorine or bromine. This drug is used to treat cholesterol esters transfer to proteins as well as malonic acid-induced oxidative stress in rats. In addition, it may inhibit the synthesis of nitrogen-containing heterocycles in diphenyl ethers or amides.
Formula:PBr5Purity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:430.49 g/mol
