    Trans-4-phenyl-4-piperidinocyclohexanol (TPC) is an analog of the neurotransmitter dopamine. It has been used as a model compound to study the effects of dopamine on blood pressure and locomotor activity in rats. TPC binds to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors and inhibits the uptake of dopamine by these receptors, leading to hyperlocomotion. TPC also has an inhibitory effect on cyclohexane ring assays and drug metabolites, which may be due to its ability to compete with other drugs for binding sites on plasma proteins. In addition, TPC is actively metabolized by rat striatal cells into various compounds that have not been identified yet.
