:Terebic acid
Description:
Terebic acid, also known as 2,4,6-trimethylbenzoic acid, is an aromatic carboxylic acid characterized by its three methyl groups attached to a benzene ring, which significantly influence its chemical properties. It appears as a white to light yellow crystalline solid and is soluble in organic solvents but has limited solubility in water. Terebic acid is primarily used in the production of resins, plasticizers, and as an intermediate in organic synthesis. Its structure contributes to its relatively high melting point compared to other simple carboxylic acids. The presence of multiple methyl groups enhances its hydrophobic character, making it less polar. Terebic acid can undergo typical carboxylic acid reactions, such as esterification and acid-base reactions, and it can also participate in electrophilic aromatic substitution due to the electron-donating effects of the methyl groups. Safety data indicates that, while it may cause irritation upon contact, it is generally considered to have low toxicity. Proper handling and storage are recommended to ensure safety during use.

CAS:
Terebic acid is a naturally occurring fatty acid with the chemical formula CH(CH)10CO2H. It is found in turpentine, pine resin, and in the human body as a result of oxidation of α-pinene. Terebic acid has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties and may be useful for treating inflammatory diseases such as arthritis. The mechanism by which terebic acid inhibits inflammation is unknown, but it may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis or its antioxidant properties. Terebic acid also has been shown to act as a radiation shield and protect against skin cancer when applied topically.
Formula:C7H10O4Purity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:158.15 g/mol
