This drug is effective in treating eye disorders such as macular degeneration. Delta9,11-Estradiol also has a protective effect on ganglion cells by reducing oxidative stress, inhibiting apoptosis, and modulating inflammatory responses. The hydroxyl group in Delta9,11-Estradiol can be used as a corrosion inhibitor in eye drops and other ophthalmic solutions. It binds to viral gene promoters and inhibits transcriptional activity of these genes.
