CAS 80-18-2
:Methyl benzenesulfonate
Description:
Methyl benzenesulfonate, with the CAS number 80-18-2, is an organic compound characterized by the presence of a methyl group attached to a benzenesulfonate moiety. It appears as a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a sweet, aromatic odor. This compound is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether but has limited solubility in water due to its hydrophobic aromatic structure. Methyl benzenesulfonate is primarily used as a reagent in organic synthesis, particularly in the preparation of sulfonate esters and as an electrophilic sulfonating agent. It is known for its ability to participate in nucleophilic substitution reactions, making it valuable in the synthesis of various chemical intermediates. However, it is important to handle this compound with care, as it can be irritating to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system. Proper safety precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment, are recommended when working with this substance in a laboratory setting.

CAS:
Methyl benzenesulfonate is a derivative of trifluoroacetic acid that has been shown to have an anti-epidermal growth factor activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of fatty acids. It also has a hypoglycemic effect and can be used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. Methyl benzenesulfonate can be used for chemical reactions involving the hydroxyl group because it is chemically stable. The chemical stability and conformational properties allow methyl benzenesulfonate to bind to epidermal growth factor receptors and block their activation by epidermal growth factor. It also inhibits glucose uptake in rat adipocytes. This inhibition prevents the accumulation of intracellular phosphate, which is required for ATP production.
Formula:C7H8O3SPurity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:Clear LiquidMolecular weight:172.2 g/mol
