5-(Propan-2-yl)pyrrolidin-2-one is a lipase inhibitor that inhibits the activity of enzymes in the production of fatty acids and triglycerides. It slows down the process by which fat is broken down, leading to an accumulation of fat in the liver. 5-(Propan-2-yl)pyrrolidin-2-one can be used as a precursor for vinyl acetate, which is used in the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastics. 5-(Propan-2-yl)pyrrolidin-2-one also has been shown to inhibit transesterification reactions.
