CAS 819-07-8
:1,1,1-Trifluoro-2-nitroethane
Description:
1,1,1-Trifluoro-2-nitroethane, with the CAS number 819-07-8, is a halogenated organic compound characterized by the presence of three fluorine atoms and a nitro group attached to a two-carbon ethane backbone. This compound is typically a colorless liquid at room temperature and is known for its low boiling point and high volatility. It exhibits a relatively low density compared to water and is generally insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. The trifluoromethyl group contributes to its chemical stability and unique reactivity, making it useful in various applications, including as a solvent and in the synthesis of other chemical compounds. Additionally, the nitro group imparts certain polar characteristics, influencing its interactions with other substances. Due to its fluorinated nature, 1,1,1-Trifluoro-2-nitroethane may have environmental and health implications, necessitating careful handling and consideration of its use in industrial and laboratory settings.

1,1,1-Trifluoronitroethane
CAS:Trifluoronitroethane (TFNE) is a reactive intermediate that is used for the synthesis of many organic compounds. TFNE is produced by equilibration with nitroethane and protonation with butyllithium. TFNE can be used to synthesize nitroaldol products, amines, and acrylates. It reacts with difluoroacetonitrile and trifluoromethyl iodide to produce 1,1,1-trifluoro-2-nitromethane and 1,1,1-trifluoro-2-(trifluoromethyl)ethane respectively. The selectivity of this reaction depends on the kinetic rate of the reactions.
