CAS:Diflunisal phosphate is a non-narcotic analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug. It is used to treat osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other inflammatory diseases of the joints. Diflunisal phosphate inhibits prostaglandin synthesis by competitively inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase, which is responsible for converting arachidonic acid to prostaglandins. Diflunisal phosphate may also inhibit the production of leukotrienes and thromboxanes. Diflunisal phosphate can be used in conjunction with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or corticosteroids in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. This drug has been shown to have carcinogenic potential in tissue culture studies, but not in animal studies. The clinical pathology studies that were conducted showed no evidence of carcinogenic potential in humans.
