It is used as an activator of nucleic acid synthesis in the preparation of DNA and RNA. Biotin-5-cytidine-5'-triphosphate lithium salt - 1 mM aqueous solution has been shown to be effective against various types of cancer cells, including leukemic cells and breast cancer cells. The drug also inhibits the replication of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2).
