Dihydrolysergic acid
CAS:Controlled ProductDihydrolysergic acid is an amide that is synthesized from lysergic acid by the use of a phosphorous pentachloride and hydrochloric acid. It has been shown to have 5-HT2 receptor agonist activity. The synthesis of dihydrolysergic acid can be accomplished in two steps. First, it reacts with phosphorus pentachloride and hydrochloric acid, which yields the corresponding salt. This salt is then reacted with maleic anhydride to produce the desired compound. Dihydrolysergic acid can also be synthesized from lysergic acid by reacting it with methylamine and formaldehyde in the presence of a reducing agent such as sodium borohydride or sodium cyanoborohydride. This reaction produces a mixture of amides, including dihydrolysergic acid.
