3-(1,2-Oxazol-3-yl)propanoic acid is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of neurotrophic factors. It is a glutamate analog and can cross the blood brain barrier. 3-(1,2-Oxazol-3-yl)propanoic acid has been shown to protect cerebellar Purkinje neurons in culture by stimulating the release of neurotrophic factors such as nerve growth factor (NGF), ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). 3-(1,2-Oxazol-3-yl)propanoic acid is also used in nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs to relieve pain and reduce inflammation.
