It is a prodrug that is converted to nandrolone by the liver. Nandrolone binds to the androgen receptor in muscle cells and causes an increase in protein synthesis, leading to muscle growth. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. Nandrolone undecanoate has been shown to have benefits for the treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) by reducing inflammation at the site of the AAA. Additionally, it has been shown to cause an increase in body mass index in women who are suffering from cancer.
