:Ioversol
Description:
Ioversol is a non-ionic iodinated contrast agent primarily used in medical imaging, particularly in computed tomography (CT) scans and angiography. It is characterized by its ability to enhance the contrast of vascular structures and organs in radiographic imaging due to its high iodine content, which effectively absorbs X-rays. Ioversol is water-soluble, allowing for easy administration and excretion through the kidneys. Its chemical structure includes a benzene ring and multiple iodine atoms, contributing to its radiopacity. The substance is generally well-tolerated, but like other iodinated contrast agents, it may cause allergic reactions or nephrotoxicity in susceptible individuals. Ioversol is typically administered intravenously, and its dosage depends on the specific imaging procedure and patient factors. The safety profile of Ioversol has been established through clinical studies, making it a valuable tool in diagnostic imaging. As with all contrast agents, careful consideration of patient history and potential contraindications is essential to minimize risks during its use.
