S-(4-Carboxybutyl)-D,L-homocysteine (S-CBBH) is a synthetic compound that has been shown to activate ion channels and inhibit ligand binding. It has also shown to be an effective inhibitor of the receptor for interleukin-1 (IL-1). S-CBBH binds to a specific site on the IL-1 receptor and inhibits IL-1 binding, thereby preventing activation of the receptor. This can lead to decreased inflammation in response to IL-1.
