Diisodecyl phthalate

Description:
Diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP) is a phthalate ester commonly used as a plasticizer in various applications, particularly in the production of flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC) products. It is characterized by its high molecular weight, which contributes to its low volatility and excellent thermal stability, making it suitable for use in environments requiring durability. DIDP is typically a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a mild odor. Its chemical structure consists of two isodecyl groups esterified to phthalic acid, which enhances its compatibility with a wide range of polymers. DIDP exhibits good resistance to water, oils, and chemicals, which further extends its utility in applications such as automotive interiors, flooring, and electrical cables. While it is considered to have low toxicity, regulatory scrutiny has increased regarding phthalates due to potential environmental and health concerns. As a result, its use is subject to regulations in various regions, prompting ongoing research into safer alternatives.

  • Diisodecyl phthalate

    CAS:

Diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP) is a chemical compound that is used as an additive in many plastics, such as polyvinyl chloride. It is also used as an extractant or matrix effect for sample preparation and analytical methods, such as gas chromatography. DIDP has been shown to promote the growth of colorectal adenocarcinoma cells in vitro. Moreover, it has been found to be toxic to liver cells and to cause kidney damage. The toxicity of DIDP is related to its ability to inhibit fatty acid transport and alter the membrane structure of cells. DIDP can also cause potassium dichromate toxicity by increasing the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). ROS can lead to cell death through signal pathways that involve protein kinase C-mediated activation of nuclear factor kappa-beta (NF-κβ), which regulates transcription of genes involved in apoptosis.
