Description:
(RS)-Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet medication primarily used to prevent blood clots in patients at risk of cardiovascular events, such as those with a history of heart attack or stroke. It is a thienopyridine derivative that functions as a prodrug, requiring metabolic activation to exert its pharmacological effects. The active metabolite irreversibly binds to the P2Y12 receptor on platelets, inhibiting adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-induced platelet aggregation.
