1H-Pyrrole-3-carbothioamide is a non-nucleoside inhibitor of HIV reverse transcriptase. It is hypothesized to work by binding to the active site of the enzyme and inhibiting the formation of covalent bonds between the enzyme and its substrate, which prevents DNA synthesis. The mechanism for inhibition has been studied using molecular dynamics simulations and kinetic studies. 1H-Pyrrole-3-carbothioamide inhibits viral replication in vitro by inhibiting the function of HIV reverse transcriptase. This compound also shows activity against other RNA viruses such as Hepatitis C virus, Influenza A virus, and West Nile Virus.
