7-Chloro-4-(2-hydroxyethyl)aminoquinoline (7CQ) is a biotransformation product of the 7-chloro-4-(2-hydroxyethyl)aminoquinoline (7CEA). It is an inhibitor of hydrolase enzymes, which are used by microorganisms to produce cell walls. 7CQ has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in cell free assays and also inhibits mutants that have acquired resistance to other antibiotics.
