:2,5-Diphenyloxazole
Description:
2,5-Diphenyloxazole, commonly referred to as PPO, is an organic compound characterized by its oxazole ring structure, which is a five-membered heterocyclic compound containing both nitrogen and oxygen. It features two phenyl groups attached to the 2 and 5 positions of the oxazole ring, contributing to its aromatic properties. PPO is known for its role as a fluorescent dye and is widely used in various applications, including as a scintillator in radiation detection and in the production of luminescent materials. The compound exhibits good thermal stability and solubility in organic solvents, making it suitable for various chemical processes. Its fluorescence properties are particularly significant, as it emits light upon excitation, which is valuable in scientific research and imaging techniques. Additionally, 2,5-Diphenyloxazole is often utilized in the development of polymeric materials and in the study of photophysical properties due to its ability to form excimers and exhibit unique photochemical behavior. Safety precautions should be observed when handling this compound, as with many organic chemicals.

CAS:
2,5-Diphenyloxazole is an inhibitor of aminotransferase activity. It has been shown to have potent inhibitory activity against fatty acid synthesis in rat liver microsomes. 2,5-Diphenyloxazole is not active against radiation or the molecule itself. The mechanism of action involves a hydrogen bond between the amine group and hydroxyl group on the oxazole ring. This leads to the formation of a covalent bond between the amine and methylene groups on adjacent molecules, preventing them from reacting with each other. This inhibition can be reversed by adding an electron mediator such as luminol to react with the hydrogen covalently bound to the oxazole ring.
Formula:C15H11NOPurity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:221.25 g/mol2,5-Diphenyloxazole scintillation grade (PPO) ExiPlus, Multi-Compendial, 99%
