CAS:Controlled ProductBenzidine is a chemical compound that is used in the production of dyes, drugs and pesticides. It has been found to inhibit the activity of enzymes that catalyze oxidation reactions by acting as an electron-transfer agent. The Michaelis-Menten kinetics for benzidine are described by a simple first order kinetic model. Benzidine has been shown to be toxic to rats and mice, causing immune system disorders and autoimmune diseases. This chemical also causes oxidative DNA damage in vitro. Benzidine produces carcinogenic effects in vivo when injected into mice and rats but not when ingested orally or topically applied to the skin.
