Studies have shown that this compound can enhance energy metabolism and protein synthesis. Glycerol-1-phosphate magnesium salt hydrate is usually administered orally in solid form. This compound is not very soluble in water but can be dissolved in aqueous solutions containing detergents or phosphatase enzymes. It also has cation channel blocking activity which may lead to its use as an anti-inflammatory agent for the treatment of arthritis, for example.
