:trans-2-Hexen-1-ol
Description:
Trans-2-Hexen-1-ol is an organic compound characterized by its structure as an unsaturated alcohol. It features a six-carbon chain with a double bond between the second and third carbon atoms, and a hydroxyl (-OH) group attached to the first carbon. This configuration gives it the "trans" designation, indicating that the substituents around the double bond are on opposite sides, which influences its physical and chemical properties. Trans-2-Hexen-1-ol is typically a colorless liquid with a distinctive odor, often described as grassy or green, making it of interest in the flavor and fragrance industries. It is soluble in water and organic solvents, reflecting its alcohol nature. The compound can participate in various chemical reactions, including oxidation and esterification, and is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other organic compounds. Additionally, it has applications in the production of pheromones and as a potential bioactive compound in agricultural settings. Safety data indicates that it should be handled with care, as with many organic solvents.

CAS:
Trans-2-Hexenol is a naturally occurring unsaturated alkyl ester that is found in various plants and fruits. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the growth of receptor cells and can also be used as a preservative in cosmetics. Trans-2-Hexenol binds to p-hydroxybenzoic acid, which is a major metabolite of salicylic acid, and prevents it from binding to the surface methodology. This helps prevent the formation of an anion radical scavenging system, which would otherwise cause damage to cell membranes. Trans-2-Hexenol also binds with allyl carbonate and enzyme hydrolysis, inhibiting population growth. The trigeminal nerve senses trans-2-hexenol and activates the weevil’s fatty acid metabolism, leading to allylation reactions that release isovaleric acid.
Formula:C6H12OPurity:Min. 95%Molecular weight:100.16 g/mol
