It has been shown to be effective in the synthesis of 2-aminoterephthalic acid from glycerol and carbon dioxide. 4-(Hydroxymethyl)-1,3-dioxolan-2-one also promotes the reaction in which metal hydroxides react with hydrogen peroxide to produce water and oxygen gas.
