CAS:<p>5-Aminouracil is a pyrimidine nucleoside that is used in the treatment of cancer, psoriasis and other autoimmune disorders. 5-Aminouracil is a prodrug that undergoes intracellular transformation to become an inhibitor of DNA synthesis. It promotes apoptosis by inhibiting the production of RNA and protein synthesis, leading to cell death. 5-Aminouracil has been shown to be effective against malignant cells in tissue culture as well as various types of cancer cells. A study using hydrogen bonding interactions showed that 5-aminouracil binds to the ribosomal protein L10 and inhibits its function in the polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
