1-(Furan-2-carbonyl)pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid is a peptidomimetic that inhibits the enzyme tyrosinase, which is involved in the synthesis of melanin. This drug has been shown to inhibit the growth of L1210 cells and to be cytotoxic against mouse melanoma cells. 1-(Furan-2-carbonyl)pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid binds to the active site of tyrosinase by mimicking its natural substrate, L-DOPA (dopamine). The drug also inhibits certain types of collagen and has allosteric binding properties.
