Methanesulfonamide, N-2-propynyl-

Description:
Methanesulfonamide, N-2-propynyl- is an organic compound characterized by the presence of a methanesulfonamide functional group attached to a propynyl substituent. This compound features a sulfonamide group, which consists of a sulfur atom bonded to a nitrogen atom and a methanesulfonyl moiety, contributing to its chemical reactivity and potential applications. The propynyl group, a three-carbon alkyne, introduces unsaturation and can participate in various chemical reactions, making the compound versatile in synthetic chemistry. Methanesulfonamide derivatives are often studied for their biological activity, including potential pharmaceutical applications, due to the sulfonamide's ability to interact with biological systems. The compound is typically a solid at room temperature and may exhibit moderate solubility in polar solvents. Safety data should be consulted for handling and storage, as sulfonamides can have specific health and environmental considerations. Overall, Methanesulfonamide, N-2-propynyl- represents a unique structure within the sulfonamide class, with implications in both industrial and medicinal chemistry.

    CAS:

N-(Prop-2-yn-1-yl)methanesulfonamide is a convergent synthesis of the intermediate N-(prop-2-yn-1-yl)benzenesulfonamide. The synthesis of the intermediate was achieved by reacting propargyl bromide with methanesulfonyl chloride to give N-(prop-2-yn-1-yl)benzenesulfonamide. This compound reacts with 2,4,6-trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid to afford the desired product. The functionalized alkaloid can be used as a synlett for other syntheses.
