CAS 94-13-3
:Propylparaben
Description:
Propylparaben, with the chemical formula C10H12O3 and CAS number 94-13-3, is an ester of p-hydroxybenzoic acid and is commonly used as a preservative in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and food products. It is characterized by its antimicrobial properties, which help inhibit the growth of bacteria, mold, and yeast, thereby extending the shelf life of products. Propylparaben is a colorless to pale yellow liquid or solid at room temperature, with a faint odor. It is soluble in alcohol and propylene glycol but has limited solubility in water. The substance is generally recognized as safe when used in low concentrations, although there has been some debate regarding its potential endocrine-disrupting effects. Propylparaben is often used in conjunction with other parabens to enhance its preservative efficacy. Its stability under various pH conditions makes it a versatile choice in formulations, but regulatory scrutiny has led to increased consumer awareness and demand for paraben-free products in recent years.

CAS:
N-Propyl-4-hydroxybenzoate (NPHB) is a preservative that belongs to the class of glycol ethers. It is used in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics as an anti-microbial agent. NPHB is effective against Gram positive bacteria and fungi, but not against Gram negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. NPHB is also used as an analytical reagent for the determination of p-hydroxybenzoic acid (pHBA) in drugs and other products. The matrix effect can be eliminated by using a mixture of methanol and water as the solvent. It has been shown that cancer tissues have higher enzyme activities than normal tissues, which may result in increased sensitivity to this compound.
Formula:C10H12O3Purity:Min. 95%Color and Shape:PowderMolecular weight:180.2 g/molPropyl-4-Hydroxybenzoate (Propyl Paraben) ExiPlus, Multi-Compendial, 98-102%
