CAS:<p>5-Chloro-1H-benzotriazole is an inhibitor of the enzyme p-hydroxybenzoic acid oxidase. It is used in wastewater treatment to remove organic pollutants, such as 3-o-caffeoylquinic acid. 5-Chloro-1H-benzotriazole can be prepared by reacting benzotriazole with sodium hydroxide and chlorinating with chlorine gas in aqueous solution. The reaction mechanism is a nucleophilic substitution at the para position of the aromatic ring by chlorine.
