CAS:Quizalofop-P is an herbicide that inhibits weed growth by blocking the synthesis of fatty acids in plant cells. Quizalofop-P is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers, with the S-enantiomer being more active than the R-enantiomer. The hydrochloric acid salt of quizalofop-P is used as an analytical standard for this chemical. The control weeds are grown in a solution containing either one or other of the enantiomers, and their growth rates are measured. This method allows for the determination of the precise amount of each enantiomer present in a sample. Quizalofop-P has been shown to have a higher rate of activity against Gram-positive bacteria, such as lactic acid bacteria, compared to Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli.
