Androstan-17-ol, 2,3-epoxy-17-methyl-, (2α,3α,5α,17β)-

Description:
Androstan-17-ol, 2,3-epoxy-17-methyl-, (2α,3α,5α,17β)-, commonly referred to by its CAS number 968-54-7, is a steroid compound characterized by its unique structural features. This substance belongs to the class of androgens, which are hormones that play a crucial role in the development of male characteristics. The presence of the epoxy group at the 2,3 positions and the hydroxyl group at the 17 position contributes to its biological activity and potential applications in medicinal chemistry. The stereochemistry indicated by the (2α,3α,5α,17β) configuration suggests specific spatial arrangements of atoms that can influence the compound's interaction with biological targets, such as androgen receptors. This compound may exhibit various pharmacological effects, including anabolic properties, and is of interest in the study of steroid metabolism and hormone-related therapies. Its stability, solubility, and reactivity are influenced by its steroidal framework, making it a subject of research in both synthetic and biological chemistry.

Applications (2α,3α,5α,17β)-2,3-Epoxy-17-methylandrostan-17-ol is an intermediate in the synthesis of 17α-Methyl-5α-androstane-2β,3α,17β)-triol (M327240), which is a derivative of Madol (M108000, which is an anabolic steroid recently identified to be misused as a doping agent. The potency of Madol (DMT) to transactivate androgen receptor (AR) dependent reporter gene expression was two times lower as compared to dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
