The uptake of 4-Bromo-2-nitrobenzoic acid in the bladder is proportional to the number of cells, which are then detected by positron emission tomography (PET) scanning. The affinity of 4-Bromo-2-nitrobenzoic acid to human bladder tissue was determined by measuring its uptake in humans and rats. 4-Bromo-2-nitrobenzoic acid has been shown to be effective against cancer cells in vitro.
