CAS:<p>1-tert-Butylcyclohexane-1-carboxylic acid is the product of the rearrangement and carbocationization of 1-tert-butylcyclohexane. It can be used to synthesize propanoic acid. The reaction mixture is heated for a few hours, and when cooled, gaseous cyclopropane is evolved. The cyclopropane is then trapped with sodium borohydride and hydrolyzed to form 1-tert-butylcyclohexane-1-carboxylic acid. This compound can also be obtained by the carboxylation of propene with carbon dioxide in the presence of a catalyst such as platinum oxide or Raney nickel.
