CAS:Nevirapine is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) that blocks the synthesis of viral DNA and RNA. It is used in combination with other drugs to treat HIV infection. Nevirapine has an inhibitory potency of 10 μM against HIV-1, HIV-2, and SIV. The chemical stability of nevirapine is greater than that of other NNRTIs such as delavirdine or efavirenz. Nevirapine has been shown to be active against drug resistant strains of HIV, such as the CXCR4 tropic virus strain BaL, but not against X4 tropic strains such as NL4-3 or IIIB.
