Azaindoles are a family of heterocyclic compounds that have been shown to be potent inhibitors of the HIV protease enzyme. The mechanism of action for these compounds is not yet clear, but they may work by blocking the binding site or by causing conformational changes in the enzyme. 4-Bromo-7-chloro-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-c]pyridine has been studied in clinical trials and found to be safe and effective.
