It is also used in vitro tests to determine the effects of ethylene on environmental pollution. This compound has been shown to be reactive with chlorine and sodium carbonate, which causes bond cleavage and ring opening. 2SSE has nmr spectra that can be used for identification of the compound. The reaction time for this polymerization process is important in order to prevent complications such as incomplete polymerization or crosslinking.
