When N-methyl-N-phenylaminosulfonamide is heated with sulfuric acid, it undergoes an acid catalysis reaction, which can produce hydrogen gas. This process can also be used to convert ammonia into nitric acid or nitrous oxide. N-Methyl-N-phenylaminosulfonamide is also catalytic for solvolysis reactions, where it acts as a base catalyst.
