This drug has been used in the treatment of various cancers and autoimmune diseases. However, it has not been approved by the FDA for human use. The drug inhibits protein synthesis by preventing dissociation of ribosomes from messenger RNA. It also inhibits phosphatases in the cell membrane that are required for the activation of protein kinase C.
