Impurities such as thionyl chloride and chloroformate can be removed by washing with methylene chloride or chloroform, respectively. Fmoc-Ser(tBu)-OH has been shown to be selective for the formation of hydrophobic bonds between amino acids and is not reactive toward other side chains on the protein.
