International day for the fight against cancer

Last 4th of February was the international day of the fight against cancer. From CymitQuimica we believe that it is very important to promote and disseminate research to continue fighting against this disease and for this reason we want to share with you a news and a scientific article that reflect great advances in this field of research.

T-CAR cell therapy keeps two patients cancer-free for 10 years:

In 2010 two patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia were treated with T-CAR cells as part of a clinical trial. T-CAR cells involve genetically modifying the patient's own cells so that they can detect cancer cells and destroy them. As of 2 February 2022, these patients still had these cells in their bodies and were free of the disease. This shows that T-CAR cells can cure leukaemia patients and prevent long-term relapses.

In vivo detection of the onset of bile duct cancer by endoscopic light scattering spectroscopy:

This article published by the journal Nature explains that although bile duct cancer is the most common type of primary liver cancer, currently most diagnoses are late and at advanced stages of the cancer. This is because radiological imaging is not accurate enough to distinguish benign ducts from those that have started to develop malignant cells.

This article presents an endoscopic optical light scattering technique that is useful for the assessment of bile duct malignancy potential and could improve the diagnostic process of this cancer.
