Description:The 6-Fluoro-3-indoxyl-beta-D-galactopyranoside is a powerful antituberculosis drug belonging to the class of rifamycins. It is highly effective in treating tuberculosis infections, thanks to its bactericidal activity. By binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, this drug inhibits bacterial growth by preventing transcription and replication. Its potency has been demonstrated through various studies, including the use of a patch-clamp technique on human erythrocytes. Metabolized through several metabolic transformations, such as hydrolysis by esterases or glucuronidases, oxidation by cytochrome P450 enzymes, reduction by glutathione reductase, or conjugation with glucuronic acid, it specifically targets markers expressed at high levels in Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains. This compound also inhibits cell growth in culture and shows great promise in combating tuberculosis infections.
