Name:
Amrubicin maleate
Synonyms:
  • (7S,9S)-9-Acetyl-9-amino-7-[(2-deoxy-D-erythro-pentopyranosyl)oxy]-7,8,9,10-tetrahydro-6,11-dihydroxy-5,12-naphthacenedione
Description:

Amrubicin is a cytotoxic antibiotic that inhibits the synthesis of DNA and RNA by binding to the dinucleotide phosphate, which is an important enzyme in DNA synthesis. Amrubicin has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against cancer cells in vitro. It also inhibits the growth of tumors in vivo and has been shown to be synergistic with other therapies for cancer treatment. Amrubicin is active against solid tumours and has potent antitumor activity. Amrubicin binds to the mitochondrial membrane potential, which leads to apoptosis by disrupting cellular metabolism and leading to cell death.
