Amicoumacin C is an amide with a broad-spectrum of antimicrobial activity. It is enantioselective and has been shown to inhibit the growth of a wide range of bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Escherichia coli. Amicoumacin C also inhibits fungi such as Candida albicans, Cryptococcus neoformans, and Aspergillus fumigatus. The high cytotoxicity of amicoumacin C can be attributed to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis in cells by binding to the ribosomal RNA. Amicoumacin C has been found in cyanobacteria and have antibiotic properties that are similar to those found in subtilis.
