Description

Aureothricin is a cytotoxic antibiotic that is effective against a wide range of bacteria. It has been shown to be effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including some strains resistant to other antibiotics. Aureothricin inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit and blocks the formation of peptide bonds. This antibiotic binds to the dinucleotide phosphate, which prevents the release of free ribosomes from the endoplasmic reticulum. Aureothricin also inhibits DNA replication in bacterial cells by binding to DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing the unwinding and rewinding of DNA strands necessary for replication.
