Cephradine is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the D-Ala-D-Ala moiety of the bacterial cell wall. Cephradine binds to the polymyxin B in the cell membrane and alters its structure, which leads to cell membrane damage and death. Cephradine has been shown to be effective against wild-type strains of bacteria as well as drug resistant bacteria. This antibiotic has been shown to bind with hydrogen bonding interactions and electrostatic interactions with other molecules, such as proteins. It also interacts with other drugs, which may lead to decreased efficacy or increased toxicity.
